Malta is a south European city in the mediterranean sea. It is a country that have seen its fair share of wars due to its location as a strategic navy base. Among the powers that have occupied the Island country include; Phoenicians, Romans, Moorish, Normans, Aragonese, Habsburg Spain, Knights of St. John, French and the British. This occupation left Malta with a lot of history to share with its visitors. Its capital city, Valletta is particularly loved by tourists due to its monuments and architectural marvels.

The country boasts a whopping 7 United Nations Science Education and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) listed World Heritage Sites. Below are some of the most famous historical sites.

Megalithic Temples of Malta

These temples were constructed between 5,000 BC and 700 BC. They are said to be the oldest free standing structures on the planet. They include; Tarxien Temple in Tarxien, The Ggantija Temple, Flagar Qin in Qrendi, Mnajdra in Qrendi, Ta'flagrat Temple in Mgarr and Skorba Temple in Zebblegh.

Valletta Waterfront

There are a number of waterfront restaurants that takes you back in time when people enjoyed real food - long before fastfoods were discovered. Manoel Theater

Fort St. Angelo

Fort Angelo is usually attributed to the Arabs at around 870 AD. However, no clear date is known about when it was built. During the reign of the Malta Knights in 1530s, it became the home of the grand master. Recently in the 19th century during the British occupation, it housed two battallions of the 35th regimen. With its military occupation, you can expect to see a lot of ancient military hardware.

Other places you can see in Malta include; National Museum of Fine Arts, Fort Rinella, San Anton Palace, Rotunda of Mosta and many more. Malta is a country full of artifacts and monument. If you want to study a little bit of the mediterranean history, then visit the source where it all began.

Wreck diving in Bermuda

The word 'Bermuda' is mostly associated with Bermuda Triangle, the supposedly dangerous shipping lane that 'swallows' ships and aircrafts that by-pass it. A lot of paranormal/extraterrestrial activity is associated with the region. US government does not recognize the name 'Bermuda Triangle' and has discounted the stories associated with it as mere fabrications by people with creative imaginations.

On the Northern tip of this popular triangle in the North Atlantic is the Bermuda Islands that were discovered by a Spanish sailor, a Juan de Bermudez after whom the Islands are named. They are also called the 'Somers Isles' and are part of the British Overseas Territory. The nearest land to the Islands is Cape Hatteras in North Carolina, about 1030 kilometers away.

The Islands are in the North Atlantic Hurricane Belt and this might perhaps explain the rumors about the Bermuda Triangle. There have been a lot of shipwrecks in the area due to hurricane. In fact, Bermuda thrives on two industries - tourism and offshore insurance. It has the highest per capita income in the world.

The major tourist activity is wreck diving where tourist dive in shipwreck areas where ships such as Cristobal Colon(1936), The Sea Venture(1609), Taunton(1902), Constellation(1943), San Pedro's cargo(1596) and many more are located.

The most famous dive sites include; Madiana, Xingda, Cristobol colon Tauton, Iristo, Rita Zovetta, Pelinaion, The Kate, Pollock Shields, Hermes, Minni Breslauer, Mary Celesta, Noth Carolina, Blanche King, Darlington, L'Hermine, Constellation, Montana, Latington and Caraquet. Note that all these sites are named after the ships that sank there.

Divers are always advised to be in the company of the local divers. You do not want to dive into these waters just when the hurricane is approaching. Always make sure that you are safe. It is also important to ensure that you have all the gear that is required for wreck diving. Most of the wreck dive areas are not easily accessible and may require for you to have an oxygen tank and protective clothes that are above average. Make sure that you also carry an underwater camera. If you cannot afford one, there are numerous shops in Hamilton, Bermuda’s Capital, that are willing to rent them. A wreck dive is a good history lesson in sea travel safety.

Traveling to French Polynesia on a budget

French Polynesia is an archipelago of Islands that are part of the French overseas territory. The most popular of the Islands is Tahiti, which also happens to be the most populous and host to the Island's capital, Papeet. The largest city is called Fa'a'a.

Unlike what the travel websites and brochures would have you think, you can travel to the islands with a small budget. Below are some of the tricks you can apply to have yourself a wonderful vacation in an exclusive destination at a small budget.

Get cheap accommodation

There is a array of guests’ houses, small lodges and pension homes that dot the archipelago. What you need to do is get one and you will be surprised at how cheap they can get. The pension homes, also called, homestays are particularly cheap. You can get ones that cost you as little as US$80 per night.

Visit off-radar islands

It is true that Tahiti, Bora Bora and Mooreae are the most popular but they are not the whole of French Polynesia just like New York is not the whole of United States. There are over 30 other islands that are budget friendly. These includes; Maupiti, Rurutu, Tahaa, Raivavae, Tikehau, Raiatea, Nuku Hira, Mataiva and many more.

Get Around Cheaply

The cheapest way to get around is walking. However, if you cannot walk, you can hire a bike for $15 per day. Another cheaper way to get around is by using boats. The local airline, Air Tahiti, also offers 30% off for regular travel.

Eat Cheap

A cheaper way will be to go to the snack food joints and have takeaway foods such as sandwiches, fish burgers, grilled fish etc. If you are staying in a pension home, make sure you order a heavy breakfast. For a small price of US$20, you will eat to your fill. Another cost cutting eating habit is cooking own meal.

Travel on low season

Keep away from the islands during the months of July through august and the festive season of Christmas to New Year. You can visit the French Polynesia during the months of April through June and September through November. During this period, the hotels and pension homes are empty. You can get discounted rates and even bargain for better pricing.

The French Polynesia is an exclusive travel destination. If you have not travelled here already, you need to plan to visit this destination come your next vacation.
